Kiteboarding or kitesurfing is one of the world's fastest-growing water sports, and it's easy to understand why. There is nothing like the feeling of skimming over the waves in the bright sunshine with the wind in your hair and being able to leap several meters into the air over waves and surf.
Hua Hin is quickly developing a reputation as the mecca of kiteboarding in Thailand. The long beach of Hua Hin, constant offshore breezes and generally calm seas have created the perfect conditions for kiteboarders to pursue this exciting sport.
People who have tried it and become hooked say it’s totally addictive. But to beachgoers who have viewed the speeding kiteboarders racing back and forth over the waves just offshore, it looks complicated and slightly dangerous.

Getting into Kiteboarding

Kiteboarding is not a sport where you just invest in the equipment and then hit the waves. This is a sport that requires qualified instruction. The wind is a powerful force, and using it to power you and your board at high speeds across the surface of the water can lead to disaster if you don't know what you're doing.
Luckily, for visitors to Hua Hin eager to try the sport, there are three qualified Kiteboarding schools located along Hua Hin Beach.
KBA-Kiteboardingasia is one of the largest schools in Thailand, with eight locations around the country. The branch in Hua Hin is located at 143/8 Soi 75/1 Petchkasem Road. They offer both a one-day introductory course and a three-day instructional course.
KBA-Kiteboarding School Hua Hin is located directly opposite Market Village Shopping on Soi 71/1. You should contact them to find out instruction packages and prices.
KBA Kiteboarding and Foil School and Shop has two locations in Hua Hin. Their main school is located in Hua Hin 83 Alley, and they have another location near the Hyatt Resort. They offer also offer both a one-day discovery course and a three-day beginning instruction course.
Taking either a one-day or three-day course will tell you whether or not this sport is for you. The courses generally teach about kiteboarding safety, weather, how to control the kite, how to steer the board, how to rig the equipment and what you need to know about the relationship between the wind’s direction and you and your board.
All the school’s courses provide an International Kiteboarding Certificate (IKO) upon completion of their three-day course.
The standard courses are conducted with one instructor and two students, maximising the time spent with a qualified instructor. Private lessons are also available for an added charge.

Alternative Thrilling Water Sports

If you’ve taken the one-day course and decided that’s a little too thrilling for you, there is still another alternative in Hua Hin that will provide the same type of thrills of skimming across the water on a board.
Black Mountain Wake Park is a facility on a lake in Hua Hin. The park offers wakeboarding and water-skiing sessions where an endless cable around the lake tows you. You can book a two-hour session or string several sessions together to enjoy a day of high-speed wakeboarding and water-skiing on a calm, fresh-water lake, away from the surf and wind of the ocean.
The park features a restaurant and terrace overlooking the action on the lake where adventurers can rest between sessions. The park also provides everything you need for a day of fun. Helmets, life-jackets, wakeboards, and water-skis in different sizes can fit children to adults.
This is a perfect activity for the whole family. Parents can take a session and then retire to the restaurant's terrace to watch their kids continue to work off their boundless energy while they enjoy lunch and a refreshing beverage.
Rental for the Holidays provides the perfect accommodations for visitors to the city looking forward to several days to several weeks of fun out on the waves of Hua Hin. They offer modern, furnished apartments with all the conveniences anywhere in Hua Hin you choose.
