Hua Hin Has Truly Unique Cultural Offerings Explore

‘Culture’ means different things to different people. But here are some things you must see to get a true sense of Hua Hin’s love of art, history and the timeless beauty of Thailand.

Hua Hin Artist Village, also known as Baan Sillapin, should definitely be high on your itinerary. This picturesque artist’s enclave is home to 19 local artists who are happy to show and talk about their works of art with visitors. You can join in workshops that teach artistic skills like pottery, calligraphy and watercolour painting. Many of the works on exhibit are for sale as well.

For a glimpse of how Hua hin used to be, visit Plearnwan. This is an old-time market that harkens back to the quieter times of Hua Hin’s past. This eclectic community houses a number of stalls offering food and beverages, whimsical toys, vintage fashions and unique souvenirs that will always remind you of Hua Hin.

Architectural Buffs will want to visit Hua Hin’s Victorian-style train station. This is a beautiful and functioning train station that recalls the days when travelling by train was the most convenient way to reach Hua Hin. Be sure and bring your cameras to take lots of pictures of yourself with the train station as an enchanting background.

For the younger members of the family, book a weekend of classes at Vic Hua Hin. This school was founded by Patravadhi Mejudhon, a legendary artist who also runs a well-respected, dance theatre in Bangkok. Your child can participate in classes that teach ballet, Northern-style drumming, Thai music and sculpture and art classes. Your child won’t want to leave!

No cultural outing in Hua Hin would be complete without a visit to Mrigadayavan Palace. This was the summer residence of his majesty, King Rama VI. The palace was completed in 1925 and is revered for its architectural combination of Thai and western styles.

Get Ready for a Day of Adventure in Hua Hin

Wildlife lovers will be astounded by what Hua Hin has to offer within a short drive of the city. Visit Sam Roi Yod National Park. This is a park where you can observe more than 350 species of tropical birds, mammals, and marine animals that call the park their home. You can also explore Phraya Nakhon Cave, a natural cave within the park that is only reached by undertaking a boat ride and a vigorous climb of half a kilometre.

Kui Buri National Park is a longer one and a half hour drive from Hua Hin, but it’s well worth the effort. The jungle park is home to more than 300 elephants and the largest gaur population in Thailand, numbering 100 of these majestic animals. There’s no elephant riding at this park, only observing the animals living peacefully in their natural habitats, the way it should be.

Kids need to burn off energy as well, and what better way to get some exercise and stay cool at the same time then by visiting a water park? Nava Hua Hin Water Jungle offers 20 rides that will keep kids and adults entertained and thrilled for the entire day.

This is the home of The Abyss, one of the world’s largest waterslides. It’s in the shape of a giant, colourful megaphone. Or you can brave the Boomerango, an anti-gravity tube slide and the Aqualoop, a vertical looping waterslide. Both of these attractions will have your stomach doing flip-flops.
