Phuket has a few waterfalls to offer, given that it has quite a lot of hills that reach up to 500m high. Combine this with the tropical climate and occasional monsoon rain during the second half of the year, and you’ll find that Phuket is a great place to check out waterfalls.
We’d like to show you one of the more interesting ones, as it does not resemble your regular waterfall. Most people might argue that every waterfall is the same, but that’s not quite true.
Kathu Waterfall can be best explained by imagining a big staircase with each step having its own little waterfall. Essentially, you would have to go all the way to the top to get a good understanding of this waterfall, which is what makes it so interesting.
When to visit? The best time to visit Kathu Waterfall is from June to November, as this is the rainy season and, thus, you will get to see more of a waterfall in that time. You should, however, avoid visiting this waterfall while it is raining, since the way up can get slippery and, in the worst case, cause injuries.
To get the best experience possible, you should arrive early. Especially if you’re trying to make it all the way. You don’t have to worry too much though, since you can also just finish half of it and still have a great time. In case you need to cool off, you can jump in one of the pool and freshen up.
What to prepare? Before you start your hike, be sure to grab enough water for the way. There is a stall at the bottom where you can get some snacks and drinks. It’s usually not too hot at Kathu Waterfall, because of the shade provided by the surrounding trees, which makes everything a lot easier.
Be sure to wear rugged footwear and avoid flip-flops, especially when you’re going with children.
Admission to the waterfall is free.
Activity on the wayIf you already saw most of everything and want to start your journey back down, how about checking out “Flying Hanuman”? It’s a place where you can fly through the jungle using a zip line. This should be great fun if you are not tired yet and are looking for some more action.
Kathu Waterfall is located towards the centre of Phuket. You should be able to go there by either joining a tour, or renting a motorbike. Depending on how far away you are, you can also use a Tuk Tuk, as long as it’s not going to drain your budget. It is absolutely worthy of your time while staying in Phuket long-term rentals with Rental For The Holidays.
