Kids in Bangkok need to work off steam, even when the weather outside is providing enough heat to power a steam locomotive. When the weather becomes too hot to play without your little ones being in danger of heat exhaustion, it's time to find a cool, comfortable place to play indoors.

Luckily for parents in Bangkok, there are several unique and fun alternatives around the city for your kids to explore, play and learn in absolute safety and cool comfort. We’ll explore some of the most popular indoor playgrounds that will keep your kids motivated and entertained for hours.

 

Funarium Playground

Funarium is a large, air-conditioned space for children to explore, climb and play the day away out of the hot weather that is a part of Bangkok at this time of year. It's focused more on keeping younger kids entertained, and it has a lot of attractions to keep toddlers mesmerised and happy.

At certain points in the day, the entire Funarium team performs dances and songs which they invite the toddlers to join in on.

Older kids up to age 13 will find the two-story climbing structure a good workout. It features a four-lane speed slide, a trampoline, a ball blower, a mini flying-fox and plenty of nooks and secret hiding places to explore.

The Funarium is open from 9 AM to 7 PM every day, and it's located on Soi 26, behind the K Village shopping centre in the Phrom Phong area of the city.

 

Kidzania Bangkok

Kidzania is a franchise operation, with locations around the world, that offers kids something a bit different in ‘edutainment’. It’s an air-conditioned, indoor ‘town’ containing buildings and shops. But every one of these buildings and shops represents a different adult job and occupation that kids can explore and try their hand at performing.

Your child can become a TV newsreader, an airline pilot, a fireman, a dentist or a doctor. There are 80 different jobs for them to try. Of course, they have all the props to go along with these occupations, such as a mini ambulance, a tiny fire truck and a mock-up of a Boeing 737. They also have costumes that the kids can wear to make them feel that they're ‘officially’ on the job.

The occupations are all attended by chaperones who show the kids the details about each, and there is no participation by parents allowed! This gives kids the freedom to make up their own minds about which occupation they would like to explore.

Kidzania Bangkok is located on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon and is open during the week from 10 AM to 7 PM and from 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM on weekends and holidays.

 

Children’s Discovery Museum Bangkok

This expansive multi-story facility underwent extensive renovations in 2014, and the current version is an impressive addition to the children's entertainment, playground and educational attractions in the city. 

It employs a ‘discovery learning process’ to encourage kids to take a hands-on approach to interacting with the various displays it has. It also features activities and themed areas such as the science gallery that will appeal to both young and older kids.

There is a new area called ‘Building Our City’ where kids can learn about construction and urban planning by making their own construction with blocks.

The museum has an outdoor area as well that has a fountain area where kids can play in the water jets and stay cool in the heat. Remember to bring a towel and a change of clothes for your kids when you visit.

The Children’s Discovery Museum Bangkok is located in Chatuchak Park near the Mo Chit station of the BTS. Its open from 10 AM to 4 PM and entry is absolutely free.

 

Imaginia Playland Bangkok

Imaginia Playland is another children’s facility in Bangkok that encourages education and exploration as well as play. It has a concept of ‘learning through playing’ and has an impressive array of activities to keep kids enthralled and engaged for hours.

The facility has activities suitable for every child from toddlers up to young teens that take in the worlds of music, art, literature, technology and strategic thinking. 19 different zones in Imaginia Playland are spread across 1,400 sqm and two floors. These zones feature a different theme and topic of exploration and promise something to keep children of all ages busy and happily occupied for hours.

Imaginia Playland is located on the 3rd floor of Emporium Shopping Mall in the Phrom Phong area of the city and their opening hours are from 10 AM to 8 PM every day. 

 

Harborland @ Fashion Island

Visitors exploring the outer reaches of Bangkok can offer their kids an indoor, air-conditioned place to play by taking them to the Fashion Island Shopping Mall in the Khan Na Yao area of the city. It’s there that you’ll find Harborland Playground.

Harborland Playground is an immense space that offers lots of entertainment and way for kids up to 13 years of age to expend their energy. The focus here is on physical activity, and Harborland offers a large climbing frame along with soft-padded play areas for the younger kids. There is a soft ball battle zone, a laser tag arena and an in-line roller rink.

Plus, there is also an ice-skating rink and video games available on the same floor and adjacent to Harborland Playground to keep the older kids occupied and happy.
