There's so much more to do in Phuket than just lying on the beach or lounging by your hotel pool. While thousands flock to the Pearl of the Andaman for underwater activities such as diving, snorkeling, surfing and rafting, plenty of other adventures are out there. From exploring the hillsides of Phuket with Flying Hanuman or kayaking through the wondrous caves of Phang Nga Bay, our list of adventurous activities to do in are full of thrills.

Flying Hanuman

For a zipline adventure unlike anything else in Phuket, adventure addicts must visit Flying Hanuman. First, it'll show you a different side of the island beyond the beautiful beaches, sand and sea. You'll zip through the forest on a thick hillside, booming with trees that are hundreds of years old. The founders of Flying Hanuman have taken extra care to ensure that their adventure park remains eco-friendly – the 80,000 sqm plot of land is as intact as it was before the ziplines and platforms were installed.

It's an adventure for all the family as well, with a minimum age of 4 years old. There are 15 ziplines and 28 platforms for an obstacle course that's filled with variety. All the equipment is very safe. The tour will begin with a full video demonstration on how to use the harnesses and helmets before you zip through the first cable. Wear your sport shoes and shades because it'll be hot!

Joy Drive Underwater

Do you want to experience the wonders of the underwater world without having to dive or snorkel? Take part in Phuket's latest exciting adventure, Joy Dive Underwater. Through their innovative underwater scooters, you don't require diving experience, weighted belts, certifications or any gear to explore the beauty underwater. You can dive up to 4 meters below water through the gorgeous reefs of the Andaman Sea. The full tour includes a day trip to Coral Island, where you can also enjoy a host of other activities such as canoeing, snorkeling or swimming in the ocean. It's the perfect diving scenario – you get the novelty of driving a scooter underwater and still enjoy all the gorgeous scenery of a regular scuba-dive. We highly recommend bringing your underwater camera along!

4-Waters Eco Adventure

Phuket is full of tourist hotspots and it's quite common for some travelers to want to escape the hustle and bustle. This tour is the perfect way to fill your day up with nothing but nature and water.

The 4-Waters Eco Adventure Tour starts with a journey to Bang Rong, an area of mangrove channels on Phuket's north coast. The tour's name derives from the opportunity you will be able to bathe in four waters – the sea, the waterfall, a spa's hot springs and ice-cold pools. First, you'll board a kayak and paddle through the mangroves. The tour then includes a visit to a plantation, pineapple farm and Khao Phra Taeo National Park. You can then trek along the forest trails past huge trees and learn about the rainforest eco-system. Along the way, the tour will stop at the gorgeous Mai Khao Beach, where you can refresh at the waterfall. Finally, the tour ends at Natai Beach where you can watch the sunset and enjoy your tour.

Tarzan Adventure

An incredible combination of challenging obstacle courses and thrilling zip lines, Tarzan Adventure is one of the best outdoor activities in Phuket. Situated on the mountain side of the Cape of Panwa, the scenery of the forest and the crystal-clear sea are truly incredible and perfect to bask in while you navigate through the obstacle course. There are 17 zip lines, 15 wood bridges and 3 net bridges to get your heart racing. Tarzan Adventure is the first and only activity park in Asia which uses undetachable cabineers, which means they have equipment of the highest standard, optimizing your safety and enjoyment. Don't forget to bring a camera, sunglasses, sun block, light clothing and sneakers!

Sea Cave Kayaking in Phang Na Bay

For an afternoon that is immersed in adventure with the beauty of Phang Nga Bay, opt for sea cave kayaking. You'll travel through the limestone caves and hidden lagoons. You'll see plenty of wildlife on your kayaking adventure and at the end, enjoy a Thai seafood buffet aboard the escort boat. With pickup and transfer to Ao Po Pier, the guide will demonstrate a quick briefing about Phang Nga Bay. Start your first kayaking session as soon as you arrive and witness the gorgeous wildlife, including macaques, monitors, lizards and kingfishers. Finally, the sunset will come and you'll have a seafood dinner on the ride back to the pier.

Whether you're on holiday for some quiet R&R or want to experience something a little different, these five adventure activities top our list of things to do in Phuket. Bring new life to your vacation by venturing out to these spots to see the beauty of the wildlife, enjoying the novelty of the activities and capturing some gorgeous photographs to remember your trip by.
