You’ve arrived in beautiful Phuket and the first thing you want to do is go to the beach! Patong Beach is the most famous of Phuket’s glorious beaches because its of its nice white sand and party atmosphere. It won’t take long for you to head out to Patong and start your well-earned holiday but have brought everything you need to spend a day at the beach? Patong Beach has changed over the years but there is still so much to do here.

Spending all that time in the sun is not just a dream holiday, it’s a health risk! Thailand is a very hot place with intense sunlight, so it might be amazing to spend time outdoors but direct sunlight is bad for your health. Bring trustworthy sunscreen and use it more than just once as most sunscreen gets absorbed or washed away in about 90 minutes. Sunscreen won’t protect you from the intense damage the sun can do to your body with heat stroke becoming a real possibility. The best way to keep the sun out is to sit under an umbrella or some kind of shade. You can rent umbrellas and mats at the beach and they are definitely worth an investment but if you’re planning to go to the beach often, you could probably buy your own.

Keep Nourished and Hydrated

The other big sign of heat stroke is dehydration, so keep as much water as you can with you. Sure it’s a holiday and you might want to knock back a few alcoholic beverages on a beautiful sunny day but remember you need to drink some water as well. Perhaps, you can mix it up a bit and drink Thailand’s famous coconut water. Take care of your stomach as well by eating some snacks or getting a nice light meal at the appropriate time. A big heavy meal accompanied by alcohol always seems like a good idea, until it isn’t!

Don’t Carry Too Much Money

Unless you want to be hassled and harried by hawkers all the time, carry a modest amount of money with you for drinks and some snacks. Going out for a night of partying requires more than a few hundred baht but it is better to go home and pick up the money rather than hang on to it while on the sand.

Time Your Visit to the Beach

Patong Beach is almost always crowded and there’s no way around this. This beach attracts young people and families in equal measure and everybody wants to get on the beach and enjoy it as much as you do. It would be a good idea to get to the beach early so that you can pick a nice spot for yourself. If you are part of a large group of people, this is tactic is an even better idea. As the day moves toward the evening, there will be plenty of people playing and running around you, so get a blindfold or sleeping mask with you if you’re planning to take a nap under the umbrella. It’s always good to get out of the beach before 6 as the traffic won’t move freely and you won’t be able to take taxis very far as some roads are turned into walking streets.

Watch Out for Touts and Scammers

While the government has taken a more active role to prevent tourists from getting ripped off by scammers, they are still out there. It is not uncommon for an unscrupulous jet ski operator to rip off tourists with the “jetski is broken” scam so just try to see where other tourists are going for these activities and remember if a price sounds too good to be true, it’s because the price is not true! All kinds of tailoring and exotic animals scams take place daily in the area and even non-thais will try to lure you into “seminars”, which area elaborate ways for companies to sell you condos.

You can get in and out of Patong Beach very easily if you have an apartment there. Rental for the Holidays is where you can find long-term apartment rentals in Patong beach for excellent prices. Now can visit the beach as often as you want without a care in the world!
