June is a special time in Hua Hin. That’s the month the town stages the Hin Hin Jazz Festival and welcome jazz lovers and aficionados from all over the world to soak up the sunshine, enjoy succulent seafood and treat their ears and soul to some of the finest live jazz performances from both local and international artists.

The marriage of spicy Thai food, a beautiful, breezy beach and cool jazz has proven irresistible to legions of fans who make the pilgrimage to Hua Hin every year to soak up the flavours, the rays and the sounds.

If you’d like to join the thousands of jazz fans who gather on the beach this year, we’re going to talk about everything you need to know about the 2019 edition of the festival that will take place on the first weekend in June, the 7th and 8th.

Where is the Festival?

The Main Stage of the festival will be located on Hua Hin Beach near the Centara Grand Beach Resort. The Art Stage will be located close to the Night Market. The distance between the two venues is to keep the music of the two stages from clashing and becoming a distraction.

The easiest way to reach the beach stage venue is to head down Hua Hin 61 Alley towards the beach. To reach the Art Stage near the Night Market, your best bet would be to take a songtaew (a sort of public bus made from a converted pickup-truck that travel along regular routes in Hua Hina) along Naebkehardt Road in front of the Night Market.

It’s going to be crowded with limited parking available, so it's advisable to depend on public transportation to reach the two venues. The music starts at around 5 PM, so getting there early in the evening will guarantee you a good choice of places to watch the entertainment.

Food and Refreshments

The food and refreshments are never a problem at the jazz festival. There will be stands set up specifically to cater to the crowd. And every food shop will have pre-cooked food on display, packaged and ready to go to hungry jazz fans.

If you plan to head to the Art Stage, you can simply graze your way through the food vendors at the night market. They’ll all be out in force as this is one of the city’s main events of the year.

Roving vendors will also be circulating on the beach to fill orders for everything from sate skewers and noodle dishes to grilled seafood and, of course, plenty of cold drinks to keep everyone happy.

It’s always advisable to at least bring a bottle of water with you when you head to the beach, as it’s likely to be hot sitting in the sun, even in the early evening. Remember to stay hydrated during your long evening of jazz appreciation.

The Music and Line-ups

There will be over 100 musicians performing during the two nights the jazz festival is held. Over 50 concerts are scheduled to be held. All the international headliners will be appearing on the Beach stage. The Art Stage will be the centrepiece for performances by local Thai Jazz artists and up and comers.

So far, the confirmed line-up of headline acts includes The Kings of Samba, Christian von Bulow, a female saxophone player from Denmark and Rubem Farias, one of the worlds finest bass players from Sweden.

Thailands own Koh Mr. Saxman will also be on hand to lend a Thai influence to the jazz music on offer.
